American Canadian Genealogical Society

The American Canadian Genealogical Society (ACGS) was looking to modernize it’s website to keep up with growing online demands. The old way of doing things wasn’t working so they needed to streamline their processes and give their clients more online accessibility and options.

Wants and Needs

As the ACGS organization evolved and genealogy demand became more prevalent It became apparent that they needed a stronger digital presence. It was becoming more and more diicult to track orders and inventory by hand, and members were frustrated with the limited resources available online. With limited website knowledge ACGS also needed a system that was turnkey and simple to update

The Solution

The solution for ACGS was a clean, user-friendly site that would be able to scale and grow with the organization. Using a WordPress framework, and a remote database we were able to keep the site running at optimal load speeds despite now having access to over 1.5 million data records. Among the back end improvements we made to the site, we created simple modules so that admins could make improvements to the site with ease. ACGS Members were now able to search and purchase resources and books directly on the site. While ACGS was able to track inventory, adjust prices, and provide both paperback and downloadable PDF options. Lastly, we increased value to new and existing members by creating member only access to a repository database of baptism, marriage, and burial records to help members identify family ancestors. This broad search functionality allows members to browse archives by name, church, city, and various other criteria to make finding relevant information simple and user-friendly.
